Since Standard Notes joined Proton, many of you have asked what this partnership means for the future of the app. Standard Notes has always been a place where people come to think clearly and write privately, and we want to make sure this space endures.
Today, we want to share where things stand, what we’ve been working on, and what you can expect moving forward.
Proton is supporting the growth of Standard Notes
Proton shares our values of privacy, transparency, and building user-first technology, which made this partnership a natural fit.
Over the past year, Proton has helped strengthen the technical foundation behind Standard Notes. We've added dedicated engineers, and Proton's teams have regularly collaborated with ours on security, infrastructure, and long-term stability.
What changed in 2025 to improve your experience
We spent 2025 fixing long-standing issues, improving performance across platforms, and reinforcing the architecture that keeps your notes secure. Here's what we did:
Small improvements that make a big difference
All platforms
- Image alignment in Super notes: Added image alignment options and preference for Super editor.
- Note from selection: Added a toolbar option to create new notes from a selection in a Super note.
- Tag management improvements: Improved the tag selection dropdown to display only direct matches.
- Warning modal for “Merge local data”: When signing in with “Merge local data” unchecked, you'll see a warning to help prevent accidental data loss.
- Removed folders migration prompt: Since the current tags system has been up and running for a while, we removed the old migration prompt to reduce visual clutter.
Web and desktop
- Command palette: You can now switch between items and perform common actions using the command palette. Press
Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + :to open it.
Mobile
- React Native upgrade: Upgraded to React Native 0.78.1 to support the new architecture.

A sneak peek at what you'll get in 2026
With a solid foundation in place, we’re preparing a set of meaningful updates for the year ahead, shaped by our community feedback and our long-term vision of building the most secure place for your notes and files. You can expect:
- More languages: Many of you have asked to be able to use Standard Notes in your native language, and we're committed to localizing the app interface to improve accessibility for everyone.
- Universal in-note search: Today, in-note search is only available in the Super editor. We want to make this work everywhere, so you can search within any note using any editor.
- Searching by note title: We're introducing a new option to restrict search results to title matches only, directly from the main search bar.
- Filter notes by tag: We're adding a way to refine your search so it only shows notes with specific tags.
- Quick scroll to bottom: You'll be able to jump to the end of long notes without scrolling.
- Remember cursor's last position: Resume typing where you left off, with the option to enable or disable this feature.
Standard Notes remains independent
One question we hear often is whether Standard Notes will merge into a Proton subscription. The answer is no: It will continue to have its own plan and pricing.
Standard Notes remains a distinct product with its own brand, subscription, roadmap, and community. Our goal is to keep improving your writing experience while staying true to our principles of simplicity, longevity, and uncompromising privacy.
What has changed since we joined Proton is our capacity. Being part of the Proton family means we can draw on the resources of a larger organization while keeping Standard Notes focused on being the best place for you to think freely.
Thank you for being part of this community.
